Lady Chargers eliminated by Hampton Christian

CHESAPEAKE—Isle of Wight Academy girls’ basketball team was eliminated from the Metro Conference Tournament after a 47-42 overtime loss to Hampton Christian on Thursday at Alliance Christian.
The Lady Chargers, who are ranked 11th in the state, still have a shot at next week’s state tournament; the top 12 teams go to the tournament. Teams will be chosen once conference tournaments are completed on Saturday.
The Lady Chargers trailed Hampton 11-5 at the end of the first quarter and led 20-17 at the half and 33-25 going into the final quarter. It was tied 39-39 at the ending buzzer.
“We went into overtime and they fought very hard right down to the end of the game,” said IWA Coach Chris Hooper. “When it came down to it, the offense had a hard time making plays.”
IWA Senior Chelsea Edwards scored 15 points; junior Ally VanCampan added 11 points and 18 rebounds.
