FRANKLIN—Southampton County Sheriff’s Office on Friday arrested a North Carolina felon for allegedly stealing a pickup from Florida and a motorcycle from Gates County, N.C.
A Hertford, N.C., investigator at about 6 p.m. notified the sheriff’s office to be on the lookout for Darrel Bryan Honaker, 50, whose last known address was Winton, said Major Gene Drewery.
Deputies spotted the stolen 2011 Chevrolet Silverado on Highway 58 and Delaware Road, Drewery said. Honaker was a passenger in the truck, which was allegedly driven by a 17-year-old boy from Southampton Meadows Mobile Home Park outside Franklin. A 14-year-old boy from the trailer park was also in the truck.
It’s believed the boys knew Honaker through a mutual family friend, Drewery said.
Deputies found the stolen motorcycle at the home of the 17-year-old. It’s believed the pickup was used to steal the motorcycle, he said.
The truck had license plates stolen from Rocky Mount, N.C., Drewery said.
Both juveniles were released to their parents.
Honaker was charged with two counts of receiving stolen property, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, providing false information to police, possessing a fake identification, fraudulent use of a birth certificate, two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and thee counts of revocation of suspended sentence and probation. He remains in the Southampton County Jail.
