Edward L. Poole

FRANKLIN—Edward L. Poole of Hickory Circle, Franklin, Virginia, departed this life March 6, 2011, while a patient in Southampton Memorial Hospital.

The Elizabeth City, North Carolina, native was born March 26, 1928, to the late George W. and Mamie Small Poole.

He was a graduate of P.W. Moore High School and continued his education at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Upon moving to Franklin, he joined First Baptist Church, where he was a member of the choir.

After 34 years of service, he retired from Southampton County School System. He then for another year continued his career as an educator in Hertford County School System.

Mr. Poole was a member of Omega Psi Phi for over 50 years. He was a charter member of the Lambda Nu Chapter and was recognized by his fraternity as “Man of the Year” in 1998.

Mr. Poole is survived by one son, Stefan Poole of Franklin, Va.; three step-daughters; one sister, Mamie V. Fulton of Daytona Beach, Fla.; three grandsons; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many endearing friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 14, 2011, at First Baptist Church, 318 Hall St., Franklin, Virginia, with the pastor, Reverend D.S. Riddick, Jr. delivering the message of comfort. The committal and benediction will be in Southview Cemetery.

The Omega Psi Phi ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
