FRANKLIN—Dr. Julius Hayes, community life pastor for the Church of Divine Deliverance of Norfolk, spoke during the Franklin Community Leadership Breakfast at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center on Saturday.

Hayes raised the question concerning what are we doing today and the importance of people coming together in organizations to work with love.

The program was sponsored by the Franklin Tri-County Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and Franklin Department of Parks & Recreation.

William Ledbetter, a ninth-grader at Kecoughtan High School, opened the program, playing a series of foot-stomping songs. Franklin’s Aimee Powell sang.

After a welcome by Angela Artis, president of the Franklin Tri-County Alumnae Chapter, Franklin City Councilwoman Mary Hilliard and Lula Barnes, a member of the Oak Street Senior Citizens, gave opening remarks.

Chapter Chaplain Ale Massenbug gave the blessing of the food before guests had breakfast prepared by Fred’s restaurant.

Tanisha Artis, chapter member, and Frank Davis, director of Franklin Department of Parks & Recreation, gave closing remarks.

Organizers were pleased with the participation and have discussed plans to make it an annual event.
