FHS soccer team wins first game since 2008

EMPORIA—Franklin High School’s soccer team won its first game since 2008 on Tuesday, defeating Greensville 4-0 in the season opener.
The Broncos led 1-0 after the first half.
“We were a little fragile in the first half,” said Franklin Coach Brandon Ivey. “Everyone was nervous. For a couple people, it was their first season. I had a heart-to-heart at the half, and we came out and played a whole different game.”
Bronco Tony Bland led with 2 goals and 4 assists. Angel Padilla scored 1 goal and made 4 assists. Xavier Freeman added 1 goal and six assists. Cassie Barnes made 8 saves.
Franklin on Thursday, March 17, hosted Brunswick. Results were not available as of press time. Franklin will host Greensville at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, at Armory Field.
