MURFREESBORO, N.C.—The process of annexing the land for the new State Employees Credit Union is finally on its way.

The Murfreesboro Town Council this week approved a resolution in support of the petition for annexation by the credit union. The new facility will be located in a field across from the current location on West Main Street.

“This is the actual first step,” said Interim Town Administrator Richard Hicks. “Next meeting we’ll ask you to set a date for a public hearing. After the public hearing you’ll adopt the ordinance.”

During discussion, Councilman Billy Theodorakis noted annexation items should not go unnoticed.

“I think we need to make sure in the future that this should not be overlooked,” he said. “It’s been this way in the past that if anytime someone from outside the commercial developer has always asked to be voluntarily annexed. It wasn’t handled right and we know why, but that’s the way it is. This situation got out of hand quickly.”

Councilman Lloyd Hill made a motion to approve the resolution and Mayor Pro-Tempore Molly Eubank offered a second. The measure passed unanimously.
