FRANKLIN—Franklin High School girls’ tennis team notched its first win of the season on Friday by defeating visiting Brunswick High School 6-3.

The Lady Broncos swept all six single matches, but dropped the three doubles matches.

The match of the night was at No. 6 singles, in which Franklin’s Tyreckka Hawks overcame Brittany Smith 9-8 (8-6 )in a marathon match that went to a tiebreaker.

The other winners for Franklin were No. 1 Samantha Bruck, No. 2 Sharnice Williams, No. 3 Asya Lee, No. 4 Jeanetta Sessoms and No. 5 Kaitlynn Trotter.

In an exhibition singles match, Cheyenne Banks lost 3-8 to Brunswick’s Rosa Gomez, and JaShonda Elliot made her varsity debut at No. 2 doubles.

The Lady Broncos are 1-1 on the season.
