Emma Sue Echols

DREWRYVILLE—Emma Sue Echols, 79, died September 17, 2012, at Sentara Obici Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
She was born April 8, 1933, in Macon County, N.C., and was a former resident of Smithfield, Va., and Lake Gaston, N.C.
She was happily married to her husband Leonard for 61 years.
Over the years, besides raising her three sons, she worked at Barclay and Sons Jewelers, Smithfield Packing, and was a former Treasurer for Isle of Wight County.
She loved to read, was an avid “card sender” and once upon a time, played a mean round of golf.
She is survived by her husband, Leonard; her sons, Marvin (Rita), Alan (Shirley) and Alden (Carlene); her grandchildren, Amanda (Aaron), Allison (Tom), Alan, Cliff (Mary Ann), Ashley (Lee) and Aaron; step-grandchildren, Gary, Cissy and Millie; and great-grandchildren, Luke, Caroline, Nathan and Nicole.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, September 22, 2012, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Smithfield, Va., at 4 p.m.
She was humor and grace, an amazing woman who will be forever missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name be made to the American Lung Association or the American Heart Association.
