FRANKLIN—A spokeswoman for Money Mailer in Franklin confirmed Tuesday the company in Pretlow Industrial Park is closing.
It will mean the loss of 100 jobs.
“They don’t have a statement to make,” said Stacy Rubenstein, senior account executive with Fishman Public Relations in Northbrook, Ill.
Fishman handles media inquiries for Money Mailer, which is a direct mail and printing company headquartered in Garden Grove, Calif., with a production facility there and in Franklin. Operations began in Franklin in 2003.
Amanda Jarratt, president and chief executive officer for Franklin Southampton Economic Development Inc., said the closing of Money Mailer wasn’t confirmed with her office. FSEDI oversees economic development in Southampton County and Franklin.
“If it’s true, I am deeply saddened to hear that,” Jarratt said.
Typically, her agency is involved with anticipated closings of companies.
“Finding employees opportunities is our first concern and finding someone for the building would be a high priority,” she said.
City Manager Randy Martin said he recently heard some third-hand rumors about the company possibly closing.
“I haven’t had any confirmation on anything,” Martin said Tuesday.
Although the Money Mailer building is in Pretlow Industrial Park, it is privately owned, he said. The city owns the park.
City Councilman Don Blythe had not heard the news, nor had he heard the rumors.
“ I would like to know why it was kept a secret and (we were) not notified,” Blythe said. “I will look into that today.”
Money Mailer was founded in 1979 in Huntington Beach, Calif., and sold its first franchise in 1980. Money Mailer has franchises across the United States operated by owners who work as marketing consultants.
