FARMVILLE—Southampton Academy girls’ tennis team defeated Fuqua School 9-0 on Wednesday.

“The girls had some tough matches,” said SA Coach JoAnn Gatten. “They remained focused and fought hard for the wins.”

Barclay Gatten defeated Jinka Sebestova 8-2; Sebestova is a foreign exchange student from the Czech Republic.

Jessica Porter defeated Stacy Dixon 8-0, Ginny Taylor beat Michaela Atkinson 8-6 and Courtney Beltrami defeated Savana Hutchinson 8-1.

Meagan Dail defeated Sommer Wood 8-6 and Megan Drewry beat Aurelie Foster 8-4.

In doubles, Gatten and Porter defeated Sebestova and Dixon 8-1, Taylor and Beltrami beat Atkinson and Hutchinson 8-6, and Hayden Edenfield and Dail defeated Wood and Foster 8-1.

Rebecca Lewis lost her exhibition match to Hanna Harjn, a foreign exchange student from Finland. The score was 4-6.

The Lady Raiders are 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the Virginia Commonwealth Conference.

SA will travel to Blessed Sacrament Huguenot in Richmond for a Tuesday, March 29, match.
