Grant double winner at Emporia track meet

EMPORIA—Franklin High School senior Justin Grant was a double winner during the Broncos’ opening track meet at Greensville County on Wednesday.
The meet also included Southampton and Parkview high schools.
Grant won the 100-meter dash in 10.8 seconds and ran anchor on the winning 4X100 relay team. Teammates were Shaquan Cook, Josh Walker and Reshard Sumblin; they ran a 45.3-second race.
The only other first-place winner was Lavon Evans in the shot put with a toss of 42’8”.
A second 4X100 team of JaVonte Blacknall, Markele Wiggins, Nathan Jones and Travis Brown ran a 50.0 for third place.
The girls’ 4X100 relay team of Ranesha Blow, Tabbitha Bruck, Janesha Hurdle and Tiana Agee finished in second place with a time of 59.2.
Grant also placed second in the long jump at 19’10”, Sumblin placed fourth in the 100m dash at 11.1 and Wiggins placed third in the 400m dash at 59.1.
Shaquan Cook placed fifth in the 400m dash at 1:01.1 and fifth in the discus throw with a toss of 79’6 3/4”, and Justin Everett placed third in the shot put with a toss of 40’4 ½”.
For the girls, Ciara Banks placed fifth in the shot put with 23’10”, and Agee placed second in the long jump with 13’02”.
The Broncos at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 26, will participate in the Charles City Invitational at Charles City High School.
