Indians defeat Bluestone 2-1

COURTLAND—Southampton High School pitcher Billy Nixon picked up his second win of the season when the Indians defeated Bluestone 2-1 last week.
Nixon had 10 strikeouts, 1 walk and 1 hit by pitch.
Bluestone pitcher Brandon Coleman fell to 1-1. He had 7 strikeouts and 3 walks.
Southampton’s Zach Vann scored on Cecil Lowe’s misplayed fly ball to right field, and a Nixon double to left-center sent Mason Wright home from second.
For Bluestone, L.J. Barnett scored on Dimitri Bullock’s bunt attempt.
For the Indians, Mason Wright and Josh Riddick were 1-for-3 and Zach Vann went 1-for-4; Nixon was 1-for-3 with a double and RBI.
In other action, Southampton defeated Sussex 5-4.
The Indians scored 3 in the first inning and 2 in the third off of 8 hits.
Sussex scored 4 in the second inning on 9 hits and made three errors.
Southampton took advantage of some early Sussex miscues in the first inning and rallied back after Sussex’s J. Jones hit a three-run homer, and the team took the lead after the second inning.
Southampton’s Jack Bunn hit a double over the centerfielder’s head to plate Brian Marks and Hayden Spalding.
Spalding came in to pitch in relief and got the win as he held the Tigers scoreless for 4 2/3 innings. Tanner Winters earned the save by striking out the last batter.
For the Indians, Wright and Bunn went 2-for-4; Bunn added 2 RBIs.
For Sussex, Jones went 1-for-3, including a home run. J. Latham was 2-for-4.
