MURFREESBORO, N.C.—The Hertford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a murder that occurred here late Tuesday afternoon.
Hertford County Sheriff Juan Vaughan told the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald that 27-year-old Johnny Parker Jr. of Murfreesboro died at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.
“We received a call from the hospital at 5:35 p.m. on Tuesday concerning a gunshot victim that was brought to R-CH by private vehicle,” Sheriff Vaughan said. “We are treating this as a homicide.”

The sheriff added that his investigators immediately went to work on the case.
“We are in the process of interviewing individuals and we will continue that process throughout the day,” Sheriff Vaughan said Wednesday morning.
