Carlton R. Harrell

GATES, N.C.—Carlton Reed Harrell, 77, of 026 Gatlington Road died Monday, September 17, 2012, at his home.

Mr. Harrell was born in Chowan County and was the son of the late Henry Benjamin and Mable Forehand Harrell.

A retired supervisor from Union Camp after 39 years of employment, he was a member of the Gates Volunteer Fire Dept., Gates Ruritan Club and Reynoldson Baptist Church, where he had formerly served as a deacon and on the Building and Grounds Committee.

A devoted family man, he was also an avid gardener and fisherman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Maryland Harrell Sr.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Mary Leigh Harrell; three daughters, Diane Harrell and husband, Gian Hasbrock, of Durham, Darlene Harrell of Greenville and Dina White and husband, Nate, of Harrellsville; two sons, Donnie Harrell and wife, Jennifer, of Gates and David Harrell and wife, Carolyn, of Ayden; three sisters, Paulette Eure of Suffolk, Va., Sandra Rose of Gates and Kay Stewart of Poquoson, Va.; one brother, Bobby Harrell of Sedley, Va.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Reynoldson Baptist Church by the Revs. Cody Brinkley and Billy Presley. Burial followed in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville, handling arrangements.

Friends may join the family in the social hall of the church following services and all other times at the residence.
