COURTLAND—The Southampton Academy junior varsity baseball team remains undefeated in Virginia Commonwealth Conference play after two shutout wins last week, anchored by strong pitching and defense.
Raider Matt Rose pitched four no-hit innings against Kenston-Forest Friday in 10-0 contest that lasted only five innings after Triston Holland hit a two-run double high off the leftfield fence to bring the mercy rule into effect.
SA’s Michael Webb pitched 6 1/3 innings Wednesday against Steward School, allowing 3 hits as the Raiders survived and old-fashioned pitchers’ duel. Ethan Edwards scored the eventual winning run in a 1-0 contest after reaching base on a sharp hit ball to second base.
SA Coach Jeff Webb added that Andrew Lowe finished both ball games on the hill with solid off-speed pitches, only allowing one base runner in 1 2/3 innings of relief work.
The Raiders hope to stay perfect at home today, March 30, against Blessed Sacrament Huguenot. Brynner Porter is expected to start for the Raiders.
