Raiders beat Kenston Forest 9-2 on diamond

COURTLAND—The Southampton Academy baseball team rebounded from a loss earlier in the week to Steward School with a 9-2 victory against Kenston Forest School on Friday.
Winning pitcher Matt Nixon gave up only one earned run and three base hits in five innings. Garrett Smith picked up the save by relieving in the last two innings and striking out four batters.
Offensively, the Raiders came out strong. Wesley Barnes, Carson Camp and Garrett Smith all had two hits. Blake Drewry led off the fourth inning with a double and was able to score off of one of Barnes’ hits, which was a home run. The Raiders did not score again until the seventh inning when they gained six runs from five hits and a walk. Kenston Forest scored both of their runs in the fifth inning.
SA’s defense remained strong and was able to turn two key double plays with the bases loaded.
