SHS falls to GW 41-0

COURTLAND—George Washington senior running back Travis Jones rushed for 162 yards and four touchdowns in the first half to lead the Eagles to a 41-0 win over host Southampton High School on Friday night.
The Eagles improved to 4-2, while the Indians dropped to 1-5.
George Washington rushed for 256 yards on 32 carries. Quarterbacks Khalil Hairston and Demontae Ballard combined for 182 yards, completing five of nine passes. Senior Chris Burton led in receptions, making three for 95 yards.
The Eagles’ total yards were 438.
Southampton rushed for 121 yards on 30 yards. Leading rushers were sophomore quarterback Coby Williams with 37 yards. Seniors Saquan Fenner and Cecil Lowe had 22 yards each. Williams completed 2 of 12 passes, including one for 35 yards to senior Jamal Johnson. The Indians’ total yards were 159.
The bright spots for Southampton included an interception on the 5-yard line by Johnson, a blocked kick by junior defensive tackle Aaron Murray and a 35-yard rush after Fenner found a hole.
In the first quarter, Jones scored on 14- and 44-yard runs. Senior kicker Jeremiah McGeough picked up the extra points, for an Eagle 14-0 lead. Hairston threw a 61 yard pass to Burton, who scored the third touchdown. McGeough’s kick was good.
In the second quarter, Jones scored on a 10- and 56-yard runs.
The Eagles scored its final touchdown with 3:49 left in the third quarter when Hairston connected with junior Kowante Cobbs on a 43-yard pass.
