COURTLAND—Southampton High School softball team racked up eight stolen bases and collected 13 hits, including a double and a triple by senior Megan Revelle, en route to a 12-3 triumph over visiting Sussex Central Monday.

Freshman Kaylee Edwards pitched a one-hit, three-walk game.

Revelle led the Lady Indians, going 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs batted in, two runs scored and two stolen bases in the non-district contest.

The Lady Indians improved to 8-1 overall and remain 4-1 in the Southside District.

It started early for the Lady Indians as they sent 10 batters to the plate, scoring five times in the first inning.

In the second inning, Katie Ferguson led off with a walk and Emily Nelson followed up with a triple, but a bad throw by the left fielder allowed Nelson to score. Revelle then followed with her double, but she was stranded at third after a sacrifice and two infield put outs.

In the third, the Indians put another crooked number on the board as they put together four hits, including Revelle’s triple, and a walk to score four times. Ferguson, Revelle and Ashlee Buehner picked up RBIs in the four-run inning. The Lady Indians finished in the fourth inning after a leadoff walk by Kaylee Edwards. Edwards stole second and scored on Kaylee Harris’ base hit, bringing the run total to 12 — the team’s highest run total of the year.

For the Lady Indians’ defense, two throwing errors on the first batter of the game allowed Sussex to score its first run. Edwards sent the Tigers down in order over the next nine batters.

In the top of the fourth, Sussex plated two more runs on Southampton errors.

In the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, Edwards used her defense effectively, coaxing the Tigers into eight ground balls and keeping them off the score board.

BUENHER PITCHES NO-HITTER

Ashlee Buenher pitched a no-hitter with six strikeouts and two walks during the Lady Indians’ 10-0, five-inning non-district win over Windsor on Friday.

Southampton had two errors in the field.

The Lady Indians for the second day in a row had the bats rolling with seven out of nine starting players hitting, said Coach Susan Melbye.

Megan Revelle led, going 2-for-3 while scoring two runs and picking up four RBIs. Buenher also went 2-for-3 and added an RBI. Katie Ferguson was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.

The Lady Indians have been impressive on the base path with going a straight 45 out of 45 steals on the season, Melbye said.

“The Lady Indians have shown their speed on the base paths that helps put them in scoring position,” Melbye said.

Southampton will travel to Greensville for a 5:30 p.m. Southside District match-up on Thursday, April 14.
