COURTLAND—Within 24 hours, the Southampton Academy junior varsity softball team swept Amelia and Greenbrier Christian academies to improve its record to 9-1.

Monday’s game against Amelia was a revenge match for the Raiders as Amelia handed the Lady Raiders their only loss on the season. This time SA won 8-7.

The teams were tied 6-6 in the sixth inning when Lady Raider Katelyn Newsome hit a triple at the top of the seventh. Cortney Green hit a homerun, and Mason Pope hit a two-run RBI triple to bring in the game-winning runs.

The momentum from Monday’s win was carried to Tuesday when the Lady Raiders defeated Greenbrier Christian 17-2.

Greenbrier led 1-0 after the top of the first inning. SA began a spree with Morgan Pope hitting a leadoff triple. The Raiders batted through the lineup to lead 6-1 at the end of the inning.

The Lady Raiders continued to produce hits as Pope hit a second triple. Newsome also hit a triple, and Chelsea Beltrami hit a double down the third base line.
