Southampton Academy looks to end Rams’ streak

RALEIGH—Undefeated Southampton Academy will face undefeated back-to-back state champions Word of God Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. today, Oct. 12, in Raleigh.

This game will decide the No.1 seed for the Colonial Carolina Conference. Both teams are 7-0.

Since Word of God Head Coach Kevin Washington took over two years ago, the Rams have not lost a game and took state titles in 2010 and 2011.

This season, the Raiders have outscored their opponents 436-231, while the Rams have outscored their opponents 350-109.

“This will be our biggest game,” said SA Head Coach Dale Marks. “They’re a good team; they’re good size and have good speed.”

 

FRANKLIN HIGH SCHOOL

The undefeated Broncos (6-6) travel to Charles City (3-3) for a Tri-Rivers District game at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12.

The Broncos have outscored their opponents 328-103 and are one of only two undefeated teams in the Virginia High School League Division 1. Sussex Central — also in the Tri-River District — is the other. Franklin and Sussex will play on Friday, Oct. 26.

“We have had a great week of practice and prepared for this game like we do every game,” said Franklin Head Coach Darren Parker. “We have to execute in all aspects of the game. Charles City is well coached and a well disciplined team.”

 

WINDSOR HIGH SCHOOL

For senior night Friday, the Dukes (2-4) will host undefeated Tri-Rivers District opponent the Sussex Central.

The Tigers are coming off a 28-14 victory over Brunswick High School.

“We have to play assignment football,” said WHS Head Coach Chuck Parrish. “We have to cut our mistakes, and play with the effort we have been playing with — play our assignments and wrap up on defense. We have to tackle, bottom line.”

Game time is 7 with senior night festivities occurring during pre-game.

 

SOUTHAMPTON HIGH SCHOOL

For Homecoming, the Indians (1-6) will host Southside District opponent Park View (6-1) on Friday.

The Indians lost to the Dragons 52-6 in a non-district game on Sept. 21.

“We are looking for a complete team effort,” said SHS Coach Wes Griffith. “We have emphasized being more disciplined and the importance of ball security and possession.”

Game time is 7 p.m.

 

ISLE OF WIGHT ACADEMY

The Chargers have a bye week before traveling to Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot on Friday, Oct. 19.
