Franklin – Thane Scott Koontz, 52, died suddenly in his home on Thursday, April 14, of natural causes. He is survived by his parents, Earl and Jane Koontz of Richmond; his brother, Dr. Gregory Koontz and his wife, Naomi, of Franklin; his brother Benjamin Koontz of Gordonsville, VA; his sister, Kristin Garrett and her husband, Dr. Robert Garrett, of Boonsboro, MD; and many uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Thane was born in North Carolina on December 15, 1958. He spent his childhood in Greensboro, NC, and Richmond, VA. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and was a dedicated employee of the Virginia Department of Transportation for 23 years. He was an avid sportsman whose happiest hours were spent hunting and fishing with friends at Little Texas Hunt Club.

Friends may visit his family at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Gregory Koontz, 304 Old Sedley Rd., Franklin, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 17. Private burial will occur at a later time.
