PORTSMOUTH—The Tidewater Academy volleyball team placed first in the Alliance Christian Volleyball Tournament in Portsmouth over the weekend.
The Lady Warriors improved to 15-2 overall and are 10-0 in the Virginia Commonwealth Conference.
“It was a good weekend for us,” said Tidewater Coach Jimmy Dunn. “It was a good challenge.”
Tidewater opened with a 3-0 win over Division 1 Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School of Virginia Beach. Set scores were 25-23, 25-13 and 25-15.
“It should be good for us in the rankings defeating a D1 opponent,” Dunn said.
In the first game, sophomore Taylor Pruitt led the team with 8 kills and 19 digs while junior Samantha Dunn had 5 aces and 9 assists.
The Lady Warriors then defeated Alliance Christian 3-0, with set scores 25-15, 25-12 and 25-16.
“After only a 30-minute break, I was proud of the team they stepped up and stayed focused,” Dunn said.
Senior Fallon Williams led the team for the second game with 7 aces and 7 kills, while senior Tyler Stephenson had 9 assists.
The next game is 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Fuqua School in Farmville.
