POWHATAN—In a battle of the Virginia Commonwealth Conference unbeatens, Isle of Wight Academy fell 25-16 to host Blessed Sacrament Huguenot on Friday night.

Ranked fourth in the Division III poll of the Virginia Independent School Athletic Association before the game, the Chargers fell to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

“Well, our guys were disappointed, but we made some mistakes tonight,” said IWA Coach Dale Chapman. “We fumbled the ball seven times, which is something we typically don’t do. Blessed Sacrament was a pretty good team and we didn’t do a very good job.”

The Chargers opened scoring with a Josh Weihe 32-yard field goal in the first quarter.

Blessed Sacrament quarterback Stephen Bendele scored on a quarterback sneak; the kick was good.

IWA took the lead again after Saxby threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Gage Rogers. The kick failed and the Chargers led 16-14.
