DENDRON—With only a few seconds remaining, Windsor’s defense fought off a Surry attack to win Friday’s Tri-Rivers District game 14-12.

Playing at Surry, the Dukes trailed the Cougars for most of the game. But with 10:15 remaining in the fourth quarter, and the Cougars leading 12-7, the Dukes advanced the ball inside Surry’s red zone.

With the ball on the three-yard line, Windsor failed to score on three attempts. The Dukes called a timeout and returned with quarterback Justice Chapman sneaking the ball across the goal line.

Tyler Fontenot booted the extra point to give the Windsor a 14-12 lead with 10:10 remaining in the game.

The Cougars on their next possession were faced with a fourth and long. Going into punt formation, Surry faked a punt and went for the yardage, but was stopped by the Duke defense.

Windsor took over the ball with 6:54 remaining in the game but lost it to an interception.

With 2:30 left in the game, the Cougars moved into the Duke red zone. The Windsor defense dug in and pulled off a sack to move the ball back to the 10-yard line.

A Cougar penalty pushed it back another 5 yards as the clock showed 1:15 remaining in the game. The Cougars reached first and goal and attempted three times to score.

On fourth and goal, a pass attempt by the Cougars failed, and the ball went to the Dukes.

The Cougars were first on the scoreboard in the first quarter following an 18-yard pass from Derrick Bailey to DeAndre’ Davis. The two-point conversion failed.

The Dukes also scored in the first quarter as Sharod Patterson broke free on a 40-yard touchdown run. The Fontenot kick was good to put the Dukes ahead 7-6 at the half.

For Windsor, Patterson led the rushing with 65 yards and Caleb Dundlow led in passing yardage with 41 yards.
