Franklin girls beat Brunswick 6-3

LAWRENCEVILLE—The Franklin High School girls’ tennis team defeated Brunswick 6-3 in a non-district match.
The Lady Broncos took five out of six single matches and one out of three doubles matches for a 6-3 victory over the host Lady Bulldogs.
In singles, Franklin’s No. 1 Samantha Bruck defeated Aleah Lambert 8-3, No. 2 Asya Lee beat Shamika Riley 8-3; No. 3 Jeannatta Sessoms defeated Aime Goode 9-8 (7-2 in a tie breaker), No. 4 Kaitlyn Trotter beat Brook Stembridge 8-6 and No. 5 Tyreckka Hawks defeated Brittany Smith 8-0.
Brunswick’s lone win came at No. 6 singles when Blanca Alvarez defeated JaShonda Elliot 8-4.
In doubles action, Franklin’s No. 1 tandem of Bruck and Trotter defeated Lambert and Riley 8-5. Brunswicks No. 2 and No. 3 duos won their respective matches with No. 2 Stembridge and Smith defeating Kiera Cofield and Maura Zurfluh 8-5 and No. 3 Alvarez and Kiana Mangram defeating Hawks and Rebecca Gray 8-5.
The Lady Broncos are 4-6 on the season, 1-0 in Tri-Rivers District play. Following the spring break, the team will return to action on Monday, May 2, against Surry.
