SHS soccer team beats Franklin 5-1

FRANKLIN—Southampton High School boys’ soccer team beat Franklin 5-1 on Thursday at Armory Field in Franklin.
“I have four starters out due to injuries,” said Franklin Coach Brandon Ivey, who lost a fifth starter and his top player in the game against the Indians. Junior Tony Bland broke his collarbone when he went for a header and came down on his shoulder, Ivey said.
Bland is expected to undergo surgery Monday.
Bronco Daryle West scored the lone goal for Franklin in the 60th minute of the game.
Coach Scott Edwards did not provide information for the Indians.
Both schools will be on spring break next week.
Franklin will host Appomattox Regional Governor’s School at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 3. Southampton will host Brunswick at 6 p.m. Monday, May 2.
