FRANKLIN—The Franklin volleyball team won a tie-breaking set 16-14 on Senior Night to defeat Tri-Rivers District opponent Surry 3-2 on Tuesday.

The win seals a third-place finish in the district for the Lady Broncos, who will host the playoffs on Saturday, Oct. 27. Franklin will play either Appomattox Regional Governor’s School or Windsor at 4 p.m. The tournament begins at 2 p.m. with the title game at 6.

“The entire Bronco roster is commended for having the hustle and heart to dig deep and pull out the season closer,” said Franklin Coach Erica Smith-Ingram. “The varsity match lasted just over two hours of intense play and the 9 p.m. end-time was worth every second.”

Celebrating “Dig Pink” for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Lady Broncos won the first and second sets and the Lady Cougars won the next two.

Franklin senior Asya Lee led the offense with tips, spikes and kills. Senior Jeanetta Sessoms and juniors Aerial Darden and Tyrekka Hawks led the defense with 9, 7 and 6 digs, respectively.

The junior varsity Lady Broncos won 2-0 with set scores of 25-13 and 25-16.
