WINDSOR—The Windsor High School cheerleading squad won the 2012 Tri-Rivers District cheerleading competition at Windsor Monday night.
“I’m just proud that they pulled together as a team,” said Windsor Head Coach Dawn Carroll. “Our biggest motto this year — they are not individuals. They need to pull it together and protect their family, and that’s what they managed to do.”
The Lady Dukes, along with runner-up Appomattox Regional Governor’s School, will advance to the regional competition on Wednesday, Oct. 31, at King William High School.
“Competition is going to be a lot stiffer at regionals,” Carroll said. “We should have eight teams we will be competing against, so we just have to bring it and do our thing.”
Carroll was named Coach of the Year, and the Lady Dukes’ Mary Alice Blythe was chosen Cheerleader of the Year. Blythe also represented the Lady Dukes on the All-District first team as well as All-Academic Team.
Other Windsor honorees were Tabitha Butler, Holly Watson and Lydia Willis, All-Academic and first team All-District; Taquesha Harris, Jordan Jones, Savannah Scheil and Alyssa Virgili, second team All-District; Rebecca Lambert, Morgan Myers, Caroline Steel, All-Academic; Lyndsey Paschal, first team All-District; and Mckenzie Patrick, All-Academic and second team All-District.
Franklin honorees were Asya Lee, Lorene Lowe and Jeanetta Sessoms, All-Academic and first team All-District; Cheyanne Banks, All-Academic and second team All-District; Madison Busby, Amanda Gilber-Richmond, Tyreckka Hawks and Shadeejah Hunt, All-Academic; and Elyashia Harris, Shontonia Owens and Cornesha Wellons, second team All-District.
The Lady Broncos are coached by Amy Cutchins.
