FRANKLIN—Franklin City Public Schools’ second-top administrator is leaving to reportedly taking a job with the state Department of Education working with low-performing schools.

Beverly Rabil, associate director of instruction, did not return repeated phone calls to The Tidewater News.

Rabil’s secretary did confirm that Rabil was leaving, but gave no other details.

Superintendent Dr. Michelle Belle did not return a phone call, while Gail Wade, director of human resources and administrative services, said she could not confirm Rabil’s departure.

School Board Chairwoman Edna King said Thursday she did not know anything about Rabil leaving.

School Board members Will Councill had no comment, while Cindy Fillhart said she was not aware of Rabil’s departure. School board members Glenn Hopkins and Verta Jackson did not return calls.

“That is Franklin’s loss,” Fillhart said.

As for filling that position, “We’ll look at total staff and then decide about filling the position,” said King.
