Windsor to play tie-breaker for title

WINDSOR—Windsor’s volleyball team at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, will play Appomattox Regional Governor’s School for the Tri-Rivers District title at Franklin High School.
Windsor on Thursday defeated visiting ARGS 3-2, which resulted in the need for the tie-breaker. Set scores were 25-13, 19-25, 25-13, 23-25, 15-13.
The district tournament will follow. If Windsor wins, the Lady Dukes would play Surry at 6 p.m. If Windsor loses, the team will play Franklin at 7:30 p.m. The championship game will follow.
As for Thursday’s Windsor win, Kellie Matthews had 10 blocks, 18 kills, 1 dig and 1 ace for the winners. Teammate Allison Griggs led in serving at 86 percent and had 3 aces, 8 kills and 8 digs. Jessica Blythe made 32 assists and four digs. MacCayla Sevais had 11 digs, and Morgan Burkes made 5 digs and 3 aces.
In action from Tuesdsay, Windsor came from behind to defeat Southampton Academy 3-2.
Set scores were 12-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-23, 16-14.
For the Lady Dukes Matthews led in kills with 19 and added 6 blocks. Blythe led in assists with 33. Griggs had 8 kills, 4 blocks and 4 aces. Sevais made 11 digs and Leah Dreps had 9 blocks.
For the Lady Raiders, junior Brooke Whitley had 22 kills and 9 blocks. Junior Katelyn Newsome made 16 kills and 9 blocks. Senior Whitely Smith had 45 assists and junior Kelsey Whitehead added 30 assists.
