Col. Ferrell “Frank” Franklin Powell Jr., USMC retired, 77, of Emerald Isle, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, at home.
Burial will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
Colonel Powell was born March 15, 1935, in Suffolk, Va., to Ferrell F. Powell and Mary Maxey Powell.
He was a 26-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War. Frank received many awards including Bronze Star Medal w/Combat “V”, Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
He married Emily Cordero on Feb. 18, 1960, in Las Vegas, Nev.
He is a graduate of Randolph Macon College and Butler University.
Frank was a member of the Swansboro United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Millie Powell of Emerald Isle; daughters, Jaye Meyer of Chapel Hill and Emily Albrecht of Fairfax Station, Va.; a brother Ben Powell, a sister, Pat Powell; and one granddaughter, Sydney Albrecht.
His parents preceded him in death.
