FRANKLIN—Franklin senior Travis Brown ran for six touchdowns in the 62-30 rout of Sussex Central Tigers on Saturday during a Tri-Rivers District game.

“First of all God is great,” said Franklin Head Coach Darren Parker. “I’m proud of our boys and proud of our coaches, we executed in all three phases of the game.”

Franklin came into the game ranked No.1 in this week’s VHSL Division 1 poll, while Sussex was ranked No. 4.

Franklin improved to 9-0 overall and 3-0 in the district, while Sussex dropped to 8-1 overall and 2-1 in the district. The Broncos racked up 488 yards of total offense while the defense only allowed 222 yards.

“Two great teams played today, and today was a war, today was a dogfight,” said Parker.

Brown led the Broncos with 22 rushes for 283 yards and six touchdowns. Sophomore Marcus Stephens had 14 rushes for 69 yards and a touchdown, and sophomore quarterback Laquadric Pittman went 2-of-5 for 30 yards with a touchdown through the air and a rushing touchdown.

“I’m so proud of our boys, they gave every ounce of what they had up today, and that is what championship teams are made of,” Parker said.

The Broncos went into the locker room at halftime up 39-22. The momentum of the game shifted when Franklin senior Devon Steward recovered a squibed kick by Franklin kicker Angel Padilla. Brown scored with 13:34 left in the third quarter on a 35-yard run to cap of the four-play drive. The two-point conversion by Stephens was good making the score 47-22.

Brown scored with 2:20 left in the third quarter on a 27-yard run to cap of a nine-play, four-minute drive. The two-point conversion by Pittman was good making the score 55-30.

Brown scored the final points of the game with 11:15 left in the game on an 18-yard run. The extra point by Padilla was good making the score 62-30.

“We just have to keep rolling, we have six more weeks to go,” said Parker.

The Broncos host Tri-Rivers District opponent Windsor High School for Senior Night on Friday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. at Armory Field.
