Vann picks up third win for Indians

CREWE—Southampton High School’s Zach Vann earned his third win of the season as the Indians defeated Southside District foe Nottoway 12-1 on Thursday.
Southampton improved to 13-4 overall and 9-3 in the district, and will end the season with home games against Greensville at 6 p.m. Monday, May 16, and Prince Edward at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 18. The Indians will honor seniors Billy Nixon and Brian Marks at their last game.
Against Nottoway, Southampton banged out 10 hits and earned eight base-on-balls in the game.
The Indians took the lead in the third inning and didn’t look back. They scored four in the third while taking advantage of six walks by the Cougars. The Indians added six runs in the fifth off one single, three doubles and a home run.
They scored two in the sixth on two singles and a double. Nixon hit a home run for the third time this year.
In action from Tuesday, Nixon earned his sixth win of the season after a 6-1 home victory over district opponent Park View in Courtland.
Nixon struck out nine and gave up five hits in the complete game.
