Andre top seed for Southside District tennis tourney

COURTLAND—Southampton High School’s undefeated No. 3 tennis player Emily Andre is top-seeded for the Southside District Tennis Tournament on Monday, May 16, and Tuesday, May 17, at Prince Edward High School.
The Lady Indians’ No. 1 player, Kendra Edwards, is the No. 2 seed for the tournament.
In recent action, Southampton lost to Powhatan 6-3 and defeated Brunswick 9-0 and Greensville 8-1.
Against Powhatan, Southampton winners were Edwards 8-5 and Andre 8-1 in singles and Edwards-Andre in doubles.
Against Brunswick, single winners for the Lady Indians were Edwards 8-0, Texie Blythe 8-1, Andre 8-0, Rachel Edwards 8-5, Kiana Tynes 8-5 and Jasmine Wyche 8-1. In doubles, they were Kendra Edwards-Blythe 8-0, Andre-Rachel Edwards 8-2 and Tynes-Wyche 8-1.
Against Greensville, winners were Kendra Edwards 8-0, Blythe 8-1, Andre 8-0, Tynes 8-6 and Wyche 8-0. In doubles, Kendra Edwards-Blythe won 8-5, and Andre-Rachel Edwards won 8-1. The other doubles match was forfeited.
