FRANKLIN—Franklin police are continuing their search for two men who forced their way into an elderly couple’s home Sunday night and tried to rob them at gunpoint.

Meanwhile, neighbors on quiet Crescent Drive are remaining vigilant.

Lt. Tim Whitt said the men knocked on a door in the 100 block of Crescent Drive at about 9:30 p.m.

“The female resident heard a knock at the front door and the person identified (himself) as a neighbor,” Whitt said. “(She) went to the door and two males busted in.”

One of the men reportedly pointed a long-barrel revolver at the woman and demanded money.

“A struggle ensued and her husband came to her assistance and grabbed the suspect’s gun,” Whitt said. “She then beat the suspect with a cane.”

The husband received a cut on his hand during the struggle.

Whitt said a panic alarm was activated and the men ran off.

On Monday afternoon, state troopers and officers combed the woods behind Forest Pines Apartments, the area police said the two men reportedly were seen running toward.

The suspects have been described as two males in their mid 20s. One was about 6-feet, 2-inches tall, while the other was between 5-feet, 6-inches and 5-feet, 10 inches tall.

Neighbor David Rabil, who lives two doors down from the victims, described the couple as “good, local folks.”

He said many residents on Crescent Drive were remaining cautious.

“I think everyone is locking their doors here,” he said. “It’s a sign of the times. Things are kind of crazy now. It’s still a great street.”
