Hats off to Trooper Hill Toy Drive

It’s nice to see that the Trooper Hill Toy Drive has not wavered from its goal set forth for its namesake.

Virginia State Police Trooper Robert Hill Sr. loved Christmas and was known for his compassion and generosity for helping those less fortunate. The drive was initiated in Hill’s memory after he was killed the day after Thanksgiving six years ago while conducting a traffic stop in Southampton County.

This charity has grown, and for a fourth year has included the Salvation Army in an attempt to give thousands of toys to nearly 500 children in Franklin and Southampton County.

Also inspiring was this year’s first-time “Stuff the Police Car” event on Saturday at Dillon Supply. Folks donated enough items to fill six cops cars.

It warms our hearts to see that this event has helped thousands hit by hard times.

Here’s wishing for a time when charities like the Trooper Hill Toy Drive won’t be needed. But for now, a big thanks to all who made it possible this year.
