FRANKLIN—The Franklin Broncos returned home Friday night after two weeks on the road and did not disappoint the homecoming fans. Franklin rushed for 202 yards en route to a 50-0 win over King & Queen.

The Royal Tigers, arriving late at Armory Park, had little time for warm-up before kick-off of the game. King & Queen took the opening kick-off. On their first series of downs the Tigers used a combination of the single and double wing, but on a pass play, Bronco Shaquan Cook intercepted a Michael Harris pass and returned it 45 yards for the first Bronco TD. Davel Newsome ran the 2-point conversion and the Broncos were on the scoreboard 8-0 at 9:57 in the first quarter.

On the Tigers’ next possession, the Bronco defense dug in to force a punt. Bronco Daquan Clemons rushed the punter and blocked the kick. Prince Lockart was able to pick it up and return the ball for another Bronco TD. Martinez Hill carried the ball across the goal line for the 2-point conversion and the Broncos were up 16–0 with 8:29 remaining in the first quarter.

The Broncos pulled off an on-side kick and recovered the ball. With 6:13 remaining in the first quarter, Martinez Hill crossed the goal again for another Bronco touchdown. Hill added the 2 point conversion on a run and the score was now 24–0 in the first quarter.

But the Broncos were not through with scoring for the first quarter, as the Tigers offense was shut down and forced to punt again. Justin Grant returned the punt 34 yards for another Bronco touchdown. At 1:50 following the 2-point conversion by Melquan Mitchell the Broncos had a 32-0 lead.

In the second quarter, the Broncos were left with good field position after a failed punt and run for a first down by the Tigers. With good field position, Bronco Brandon Myrick reached pay dirt from the 5-yard line. A kick for the extra point by Delvontae Boone failed but the Broncos had a 38-0 lead that they took to the locker room for the half.

Taking advantage of a big lead, the Bronco coaching staff went to the bench to give many players some playing time. Because of the point spread by the Broncos, the second half was played with a running clock.

Lavon Evans scored in the third quarter on a 19-yard run, but the kick for the extra point by Lacurt Boone failed. The Broncos pushed the score to 44-0 with 9:44 remaining in the third quarter.

The Broncos last score came with 4:47 in the fourth quarter on a Derek Boone 7-yard run. The two point conversion failed, but the Broncos were now up 50-0, which held to the final horn.

Martinez Hill was the Bronco leading rusher with 42 yards.

Bronco head coach Darren Parker said execution was the plan for the Broncos.

“We had a great week of practice, and we are getting ready for December,” he added.

The Broncos will face all district teams in the next four weeks of the season. The Surry Cougars will be in town next week for the Broncos first district game at 7 p.m.
