SUFFOLK—Daniel Morris Porter, 74, of Suffolk died May 14, 2011.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Bethlehem Christian Church, Suffolk. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Porter retired in 1996 after 30 years of service as Director of Tidewater Research Center in Holland. He wrote numerous publications and textbooks and traveled the world giving lectures on peanut production, diseases and harvesting research.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Sylvia Keen Porter; sons Wesley Porter of Corapeake, N.C., and Kentley and Tracy Porter of Carrsville; sisters Linda Warren of Clinton, N.C., and Glenda Blue of Burlington, N.C.; and a brother, Nelson Porter of Newton Grove, N.C.

Parr Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
