Childress caps stellar softball career with Player of Year honor

Franklin High School graduate Lauren Childress was named Player of the Year in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference and Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
A senior at Bridgewater College, Childress led the conference with a .549 average in ODAC play and also led the league with an .863 slugging percentage in conference play. Childress, a third baseman, drove in 21 runs and scored 30 times to help lead the Eagles to a 14-4 record in the ODAC and a share of the conference title.
Childress has a 3.816 grade-point average in family and consumer sciences. She is the daughter of former Franklin residents Richard and Pam Childress of Raleigh, N.C.
