CHESAPEAKE—Edward Daniel Forrest Jr., 91, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2013.

He was a native of Southampton County, Va., and the son of the late Edward D. Forrest Sr. and Willie Godwin Forrest.

After retiring as a Chief Gunners Mate from the U.S. Navy, Ed retired as a crane operator from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth.

He was a longtime member of Jolliff United Methodist Church and a dedicated Dallas Cowboys fan.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sara D. “Snookie” Forrest; a daughter, Donna F. Bradley; a son, Edward D. Forrest III and wife Carol; two grandchildren, Allison and Gregory Forrest; a sister, Elna Jones and husband Bill; several nieces and nephews; and a special dog, Abbey Blue.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013, at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel by Rev. Waverly Smith and Rev. Edward Rigg.

Burial will follow in Albert G. Horton Veterans Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jolliff United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1900 Jolliff Road, Chesapeake, Va., 23321.
