FRANKLIN—A flood warning has been extended for the Blackwater and Nottoway rivers, according to meteorologist Lyle Alexander with the National Weather Service in Wakefield.
The Nottoway at 7:15 a.m. Monday had risen to 17.7 feet and was expected to rise above the 18-foot flood stage by late Tuesday.
Hancock Peanuts in Courtland would be affected at 18.5 feet.
“We just upgraded the status this morning,” Alexander said. “The river is barely touching the moderate level, but should not rise any higher.”
At 4:45 a.m. Monday the Blackwater had risen to 11.7 feet; flood stage for the river is 10.8 feet.
Portions of Joyners Bridge Road in Southampton County and Burdette Road in Isle of Wight County were flooded.
“The river just crested this morning and will be above flood stage for a while at least until Wednesday morning,” he said.
