Dorothy Dupree Gibson

FRANKLIN—Dorothy Dupree Gibson, 87, widow of Mark Gibson, passed away January 26, 2013.

She was born in North Carolina, a daughter of the late Samuel Redmond and Rosa Fariss Waters Dupree and was predeceased by her son, Virgil M. Gibson; two sisters Opal D. Respess and Mary Elizabeth Dupree; and three brothers Charles A. Dupree, Ernest L. Dupree and Samuel R. Dupree Jr.

A member of Franklin Baptist Church for over 60 years, she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Confederacy and the Huguenot Society.

Survivors include two daughters Peggy G. Stephenson of Franklin and Loretta G. Barber and husband John of Friendswood, Texas; one son, Joseph R. Gibson and wife, Carol, of Mechanicsville, Va.; nine grandchildren Kim S. Parker, H. Scott Stephenson III, J. Mark Stephenson, Melissa S. Worrell, Kate C. Gibson, Joseph C. Gibson, W. Samuel DeLucia, Amy E. Barber and John H. Barber III; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, February 1, 2013, in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Sharon James officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery.
