ISLE OF WIGHT—The Isle of Wight Academy girls’ basketball team defeated Metro Athletic Conference foe Atlantic Shores Christian 29-23 Tuesday.

“We found a way to pull it out in the end,” said IWA Coach Chris Hooper. “We were just not on our normal game.”

The Lady Chargers improved to 8-1 in the MAC and 11-3 overall.

IWA was without starting point guard Amanda Williams

“Anytime you lose a starter it throws your game plan off a little bit,” Hooper said.

The Lady Chargers only allowed Atlantic Shores 15 points on offense; the rest came through free throws.

“I was proud of our defense. They played great,” he said.

Leading for the winners were sophomore Gabriella Hooper with 14 points and four rebounds; junior Dianne Davis netted nine points and pulled down five rebounds.

The Lady Chargers will travel to Williamsburg Christian Academy for a 5:30 p.m. MAC game today, Feb. 1.

“It will be a tough game,” Hooper said. “They are number one in Division 2 as well as defending Division 3 State Champions.”
