FRANKLIN—Dorothy Lane of Sycamore Road in Franklin said she’ll never forget what Thursday’s winds did to her home.

Around 1:30 to 2 a.m., a pine tree in her front yard snapped, landing on one of her Cadillacs and front porch.

“Thank God the other Cadillac was in the back,” Lane said.

Part of the tree also fell through the roof and into the home’s front hallway.

“I had just walked through here to get some cookies and took them back to bed,” said Lane. “About 10 to 15 minutes later, I heard a sound like a freight train exploding.”

The frightening incident left her with a day-long headache Thursday.

“I feel a little nervous,” she added. “That wind was awful.”

Lane considers it a miracle that neither she nor her oldest son, Curtis, were hurt.

“We were just blessed. God protected us,” she said.

Clean-up and repairs are expected to cost $25,000 to $30,000, said Lane. She had insurance and expects work to start Friday.

Lane will spend an additional $20,000 to get rid of the remaining 13 pine trees.

A former resident of Mariner Street, she moved to Sycamore in November.
