COURTLAND—Southampton High School’s soccer team finished the season Wednesday with a 3-1 Southside District loss to Brunswick.
Kelly Wiggins scored the Indians’ lone goal. Devin Beale had four saves, and Southampton outshot Brunswick 19-7.
“Most of the game was controlled by us, but we were unable to score,” said SHS Coach Scott Edwards. “It was a good season even though we didn’t win as many matches as we could have. After losing 15 of the 20 players from last year’s team, I knew this was going to be a rebuilding year.”
“We played hard and were in most of the matches,” Edwards continued.
Seven starters are expected to return next year.
Sophomore Johnnie Tribbett finished the season with eight goals and six assists, and sophomore Alex Dunlow had six goals and one assist.
Senior Michael Hastings had six goals and an assist. Junior goalkeeper David Strozier was closing in on 200 saves before injuring his ankle with two matches left.
