Raiders baseball loses in semifinals

COLONIAL HEIGHTS—Southampton Academy’s baseball team lost 1-0 to Blessed Sacrament Huguenot in the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association’s state semifinals on Friday.
The loss brings the No. 7-ranked Raiders’ season to an end and means No. 6 Blessed Sacrament will take on No. 4 Brunswick for the state title on Saturday,
May 21.
To get his team into the semifinals, SA’s Carson Camp hit a 10th-inning single that brought home two runners, allowing the Raiders to beat No. 2-seed North Cross 8-5 in the state quarterfinals.
Jacob Holland pitched the entire game for the win against North Cross. Holland had nine strikeouts and gave up nine hits.
The game was tied 5-5 at the end of seven innings and both teams went scoreless for the eighth and ninth innings.
In the top of the 10th, Holland walked and Ryan Pittman got on base on an error at second base.
With runners on first and second, Matt Nixon walked to load the bases. That’s when Camp hit a single to bring home Holland and Pittman. Wesley Barnes hit in Nixon for the winning run.
Nixon went 3-for-4 with two walks and two runs scored. Camp was 4-for-5 with one walk and two runs.
