SUFFOLK—About 1,500 chickens were killed Friday in a fire at a poultry house on Milford Lane near Holland.

Firefighters were called at 8:18 a.m., said Suffolk spokeswoman Diana Klink.

The owner of the farm had reported a fire at the rear of one of three structures on the farm. Each houses about 21,800 chickens. Representatives from Perdue Farms removed the remaining chickens from the damaged building.

There were no injuries to firefighters.

The Suffolk Fire Marshal is investigating, Klink said.
