Newsoms girls win three out of four games

NEWSOMS—The Newsoms 16U girls’ softball team on Friday defeated Sedley 13-5.
Kaylee Harris pitched five innings for the host team, giving up three hits and recording two strikeouts. Newsoms had two errors and 12 hits.
De Brickhouse started the first inning with a hit and stole home to give Newsoms its first run. Ashlee Buehner walked, Katelyn Newsome and Kaylee Harris both hit doubles, scoring a run each, and Brittany Johnson hit a single, scoring a run.
In the second inning, Rebecca Lewis got on base and Chelsea Pinner knocked her in with a hit to centerfield. Buehner came up to bat in the third inning, hitting a home run to left field.
Newsome hit a single, Harris walked, Johnson hit a single scoring a run and Taylor Ward hit a single scoring two runs.
In the fourth inning, Pinner hit a single followed by Brickhouse with a home run. Buehner walked and stole home, making the score 12-5.
Harris hit a single, and Newsome was put in as a runner for the pitcher and stole home for the final run.
“It was a great game,” said coach Robin Pinner. “Both teams showed great sportsmanship. Newsoms played well defensively and offensively.”
Lewis received the sportsmanship award.
Wakefield 12, Newsoms 2
In action on May 15, Newsoms lost 12-2 to Wakefield.
Pinner and Brickhouse started the first inning with a single each. Buehner knocked them both in with a clean double but was thrown out trying to take third.
Shelby Felts hit a single in the third inning but was left on base when the inning ended.
Wakefield scored eight runs in the first inning, two in the second and two in the third.
Buehner pitched three innings, gave up nine hits and had five strikeouts.
Wakefield’s Falon Williams pitched four innings, gave up four hits and had one strikeout.
Johnson received the sportsmanship award.
“Newsoms did not play up to their potential,” Robin Pinner said. “It was a tough loss.”
Newsoms, 14, Ivor, 3
On May 13, Newsoms defeated Ivor 14-3.
The game started with Pinner drawing a walk. Buehner and Newsome had singles. Newsome scored a run with her hit. Heather Bradshaw hit a double, scoring two runs.
In the second inning, Margaret Gadsby and Lewis got on base. Ward walked, and Pinner hit a double, scoring two runs. Brickhouse hit a triple, scoring two runs. Buehner walked and Newsome knocked in Brickhouse.
Bradshaw hit a double scoring the last two runs for the inning.
In the top of the fourth, Pinner hit a double, Newsome walked and Harris knocked them both in with a double.
Ivor scored three runs in the fourth inning.
Johnson started off the fifth with a double, Gadsby walked and Lewis knocked in two runs. Buehner pitched five innings, gave up two hits and had 10 strikeouts.
Ivor’s Shelby Billups gave up 12 hits and had two strikeouts.
Felts received the sportsmanship award.
Newsoms 6, Capron, 2
On May 8, Newsoms defeated Capron 6-2.
Buehner pitched the seven-inning game, giving up four hits and recording four strikeouts. In the first inning, Brickhouse hit a home run and Newsome hit a double. Bradshaw hit a single, bringing Newsome home.
The score was 2-2 going into the fourth.
Bradshaw and Johnson had singles, and Ward hit a single and scored two runs.
Brickhouse started the fifth inning with a single and Newsome knocked her in with a home run.
Gadsby received the sportsmanship award.
