IWA boys eliminated in state quarterfinals

AMELIA COURT HOUSE—The Isle of Wight Academy boys could not overcome the No. 2 ranked Amelia Academy’s height advantage as the Chargers fell 67-49 in the quarterfinal round of the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division III State Basketball Tournament on Wednesday.
Amelia has seven players at 6 foot or taller.
The Chargers, who came into the game as the No. 7 seed, were led by senior Nathan Sivertson with 20 points, while teammate Austin Rogers added 13.
The Chargers trailed 24-12 after the first quarter.
With 2:28 left in the first half, IWA cut the lead to 31-25 after a three-pointer by Rogers. The Patriots then reeled off 18 unanswered points going into the locker room up 41-27.
The Chargers finish their season with a 21-9 overall record.
