SEBRELL—The Southampton County Sheriff’s Office believes the shooting of a 17-year-old Sebrell male at 6:10 p.m. Monday was accidental, said Major Gene Drewery.
The victim, who was shot by a family member, was not identified because the investigation is continuing, Drewery said.
A shotgun was used, and the teen suffered wounds to his abdomen and arm. He was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. As of this morning, he was transferred from the intensive care unit to a regular room.
The sheriff’s office learned about the shooting after hearing the victim was being transported to Courtland Rescue on Bridge Street.
Deputies determined the shooting occurred outside near Old Hickory Road.
There was another call about two hours later to the same location for a fight. It was determined it was an argument about what had occurred earlier, Drewery said.
